Alice Cooper - Zipper Catches Skin (Japan) (1990) Retail CD
By my reckoning, this 1982 release was Cooper's 14th studio album, and although it doesn't bear comparison to the Grand Guignol concept albums of his mid-70s heyday, it's not entirely unsuccessful in its attempt to absorb New Wave influences - keyboards and programmed rhythms feature heavily. For a performer who many would have dismissed as a washed-up old glam rocker in a post-punk world, Cooper has proven remarkably resilient and adaptable. As the cover art showing all the lyrics for the album indicates, this is above all a talky album. Cooper has long been underrated as a witty lyricist, butmore… Zipper Catches Skin features sassy and satirical takes on tabloid culture (I'm Alive), the battle of the sexes (Remarkable Insincere, Adaptable) and slasher films (Tag, You're It). The album also includes I Am The Future,a dystopian anthem used in the film Class of 1984.
