Bill Tarmey - In My Life (2001) Retail CD
Bill Tarmey is known to millions as his alternate ego 'Jack Duckworth' in the UK soap opera Coronation Street. However, Bill was actually a professional singer before he ever acted and this, his fifth album in eight years, is an excellent 16 track CD of classic jazz and contemporary ballads. For 'In My Life', Bill has once again teamed up with producer Derek Wadsworth who balances lush orchestral arrangements to make the most of Tarmey's soft vocal style. For me, the stand out track is Lerner and Loewe's "on the street where you live" which opens and closes with brief orchestral flourishes ofmore… the Coronation Street theme tune - a three minute musical autobiography and with the right promotion a potential single. Other notable tracks are Lennon and McCartney's title track, Howard's "fly me to the moon", Henley and Siblar's "wind beneath my wings", Bacharach and David's "the look of love" and Cole Porter's "you'd be so nice to come home to". The CD booklet has some nice photographs and informative liner notes, quality you would expect from a major label release.
