If you're like me, one of the things most likely to impressupon you from this disc is just how seamlessly the band members'skills and talents interweave into a perfect, flawless whole.The first track "Double Dare" for instance starts with ominous, relentless bass, shimmering guitar (both are pureelectricity) and chaotic pummeling drums that constantlywaver from left speaker to right. Pete Murphy's vocals completethe circle with urgency and no time for second best, in his rant against conformity.Bauhaus create an ominous and electric mood that defiescomplacency and celebrates defiance. Othermore… classic tracksinclude "Sanity Assassin", "She's In Parties", "Dark Entries"as well as an inspiring cover of Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust".And of course, the masterpiece "Bela Lugosi's Dead" -the tapping drums, dread inspiring bass and wavering yet constant guitar have surely passed into legend andPete's delivery simultantenously evokes sympathy, dread and regret. A startling debut single and an all time masterpiece.Of course a predilection for gothic imagery and punkabandon is desirable but whatever your prefernce, when youdiscuss tight, perfectly formed and executed bands, Bauhausshould definetly be on your list.
