Description
This overlooked 1965 concert recorded at The Olympia, Paris finds the Thelonious Monk quartet in scintillating form.
Monk's craggy music is full of energy and character with his piano playing particularly inspired on this date. Tenorist Charlie Rouse also plays brilliantly and the rhythm section of Larry Gales(bass) and Ben Riley(drums) are solid with fine solos.
Also included is a marvellous DVD of the same quartet playing 3 tracks in Oslo in 1966. Eric Dolphy once said that "you haven't heard Monk until you've seen him" so this superb CD/DVD is a perfect introduction to the world of Theloniousmore…
