Description
It's incredible this reached a third instalment, but unsurprising that original composer Basil Poledouris didn't continue scoring. Stepping into the whale-sized shoes comes Cliff Eidelman; discarding the thematic material of either prequel duties (although the Free Willy theme is briefly reprised at the end of the album), and finding remarkable emotional depth without tipping us into sickening schmaltz. His "Rescue" theme is especially touching. At the end of "Obsession" is the only attempt at acknowledging the creature itself with a synth sample that's almost whalesong. Otherwise the parts itmore…
