I stumbled across this album by accident; now I can't imagine my music collection without this wonderful album. 'Bluffers guide to the flight deck' is an album of great musical ambition, beautiful songs and eccentric charm. With the UK's airwaves and music magazine's completely distracted by a rather dull pub/punk/pantomime band, it's a terrible pity that this album might pass by the emperors parade unnoticed. Beautiful sweeping strings and mournful brass accompany songs such as 'Donald Pleasance' and 'Happy 13', The wailing theramins on 'Fire engine on Fire Pt II' are reminiscent of 'The Beachmore… boys' with a 'Grandaddy' feel. 'Bluffers guide' is strong throughout. The album has the kookiness of David Bowie's 'Hunky Dory', the lush and imaginitive instrumentation of 'The beach boys', with a similar sleepy pop feel of U.S bands 'Mercury Rev' or 'Sparklehorse'. If you like any of the bands mentioned above this album is a new country waiting to be discovered. Get your boots on and go on an expedition, you won't want to come back.
