This really is a terrible version of what has actually become something of a latter day hymn (together with The Pogues and Kirsty McColl).What everybody seems to miss the point about the actual song itself is the rush that the original was done in, written in a taxi, with artists turning up on a Sunday morning, hungover and tired, making up the melody and song structure as they went along, finishing by mixing the thing overnight before the free studio time ran out, all of this going on with Bob swearing and carrying on at Robert Maxwell in the background. All of this chaos gives the song a naivitymore…
