Imagine if you will, a 6'5", 260 lb, African-American country rapper. Cowboy Troy (born Troy Coleman) is a Texan who raps with country biggies Tim McGraw and Big & Rich, and who even has three previous albums on his own. Describing his music as "Hick-Hop", he comes across like Weird Al Yankovic morphed with Shaquille O'Neal and Jeff Foxworthy. More gimmick than music, his songs relate to William Hung more than Brooks and Dunn, but his enthusiasm is definitely contagious. There are lots of different beats on this album and collaborations with friends, but while the music is catchy and fun, themore… rhyming is childish and not as fluent as we are accustomed to in "real" Hip-Hop. When the cowboy raps in Spanish, Japanese, Chinese and Russian - oh dear! He leads off with his somewhat autobiographical "I Play Chicken with the Train" with Big & Rich, and then gets a crick in his neck with the comedy piece that follows. "Ain't Broke Yet" has definite R&B undertones, and "If You Don't Wanna Love Me" with Sarah Buxton, is an old time country ballad with violins, one of the better tracks on the album. "Somebody's Smilin' on Me" is another pick, with Tim McGraw and Big Kenny adding a little musical touch, and also "Automatic" with ATOM. Troy suggests that you shake a hand instead of shakin' a fist, but you're more likely to be shakin' with laughter at this cross-genre novelty album.
