As a kid, my friends and I were really into the Rollers. Kiss of course were massive, but ultimately lame and such con-artists of extreme capitalism. even we weren't fooled. This album was a real step forward for the Rollers. You can hear the maturity from the opener "I Only Wanna Dance With You" to "love is..with its unusual galloping beat and "too young to rockn'roll'" is a pre-punk/post glam stomper. People may forget but the Rollers were big influences on the Ramones(!) Think of "blitzkreig bop" with it's simplistic music and chant 'hey-ho - let's go!' which the Ramones themselves have acknowledgedmore… many times over, and Blondie who were photographed in their lower-eastside flat wth a cover of "rock n' roll loveletter" (the usa alternate of 'wouldn't you like it') hung proudly on their wall. the Rollers were a breath of fresh pop-rock air when they invaded the usa. even the cool kids liked "Money Honey" their 2nd US single, which was in the top10 for well over a month. Unfortunately pop music in the '70's in the USA was dominated by dull very adult-rock by the Eagles and their ilk, and the bloated prog rock of Pink Floyd, while we only got small doses of glam fun from fab artists like t.rex, sweet, gary glitter, etc. and suffered the bland top 40 radio."Wouldn't You Like IT?" and its american alternate campanion "Rock n' Roll Love Letter"contained all Faulner/Wood compositions other than the single "give a little love" and the title track in the USA, which certainly wasn't better than any of their originals.'lovely to see you' and 'here comes that feeling again' was very Beatlesque and the title track was glam rock fun fun fun. It seemed like finally there was fun cool music for us. of course the album is not flawless and i always thought that the Rollers were at their best when they rocked. For us they were a stepping stone to Bowie, punk american style and the english version, and for that i will always be glad that we had a place to start when the adults seemed to rule the airwaves with "their" music.
