I personally think this album is fantastic. There isn't a single track on "Rockinghorse" that I do not like. I'm the kind of person who doesn't really care if an album isn't an utter classic as long as it contains some good songs, which means that I get a bit annoyed when Alannah Myles's later work is rubbished and criticised simply for not being the true classic that her original self-titled album was. Myles's "one-hit-wonder" status has rendered her an extremely under-rated singer, which is a real shame as she has an excellent voice and is backed by an excellent band. Whether you love or hatemore… her music, I think her vocals on this album cannot be faulted. From the out-and-out rockers like "Make Me Happy" (my personal favourite) and "Love in the Big Town", to the softer and sweeter approach of "Song Instead of a Kiss" - her singing is utterly flawless. The title track "Rockinghorse" is an acoustic track saved until last as with the first album, and I much prefer this song to its counterpart "Hurry Make Love". Out of all Alannah Myles's later albums, I personally feel that "Rockinghorse" is by far the best one. I highly recommend it especially if you liked the first album. Don't be put off by the ridiculous complaints that it doesn't contain another "Black Velvet" - just listen and enjoy it for what it is in its own right: another great album by a truly brilliant vocalist.
