Toby Marks--aka--Banco De Gaia, has been pumping out his own brand of globally conscious techno music for a remarkable ten years. X Marks The Spot is a collection of his works so far; nineteen records culled from the six artist albums he's put out--an impressive achievement in itself in the ephemeral/disposable world of DJ culture. There are many classic and instantly recognisable tracks here, and listening to them all in one run serves the purpose of reminding us what an adequate and often thrilling producer Marks is. In a dance scene saturated with techno/ambient producers, not many of themmore… can match his way of combining seemingly disparate elements of sound--ambient, prog rock, dub, electronic--into a fibrous but cohesive and atmospheric whole.
