Description
These songs are lovely, full of soul and emotional intensity. Her voice in this album reflects the "Baptist Lining" tradition, where the singer lethargically delivers a song according to some inner sense and arhythmic meter. It reminds me of church. I never was fond of the song "A Mighty Fortress," but the others are really spiritual in quality. "Be Still, My Soul" (Finlandia) is gorgeous. "I'd Rather Have Jesus" tears at my heart. "It Is Well With My Soul" raises the roof off the house when Mahalia arrives at the final exultation of the lyrics. I feel that this CD captures Mahalia in amore…
