First things first, it's a great album. Standout tracks for me are 'Hideaway', 'Lillian', 'Waste of Space' and 'Valentine'.So why 4 stars and not 5? The Delays' debut was in my opinion a masterpiece of pop perfection, and ranks amongst the best albums I have ever heard. To my ears, it sits alongside the likes of Revolver and Rubber Soul, Forever Changes, Mr Tambourine Man.....in terms of blissful summery jingly jangly pop. From start to finish, it was a masterpiece.Here, the Delays have tampered to an extent with the original formula, adding electronic synthesisers to the equation, and movingmore… towards a dance sound. Some may appreciate this shift, but for me, they were perfect already, and any change from their initial sound is going to be a change for the worse.There are a couple of tracks which if not exactly filler, are bettered by 'Faded Seaside Glamour' leftovers such as Overlover and 'Quiet'. Namely 'This Town's Religion' and 'Sink like a Stone'.But it is still a great album, and better than 99% of albums you will hear this year.
