Let's Get Back Together is a pleasant collection of Billy's ballads from the 80's (plus a few from the 90's and beyond). The big hits are here, and there's a really cool bonus in the previously unreleased "Our Love Will Survive" (which really should have been released back in '88!). I'm not as crazy about the two new tunes: the production is very thin and impersonal, and Billy doesn't do a whole lot vocally on them. I hope that he'll have more involvement in writing and production again if he does end up recording further - his involvement in the construction of these new songs (both remakes)more… is missed!Jive was wise to include "Promise Me," a very underrated tune from the Love Zone album. But upon listening to more mediocre tunes here like "Because of You" and "Can We Go Round Again," I long instead for some of Billy's most underrated ballads - those that he recorded in the 70's and early 80's before he was with Jive ... unforgettable gems like "Maybe Tonight," "My Love," and "Nashville Rain." I guess I'll have to start my own reissue label and compile an "early love songs" collection of Billy someday! On the whole, this collection is solidly put together, and fans of Billy's 80's works will find in it both songs they love and are familiar with and a few surprise treats!
