Well, Bonkers 12 wasn't exactly a showstopper in the Bonkers series, so I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this album. Now that I've listened to it, I can tell you that this is, by far, the best album since Bonkers 10. It would have been better than 10 had Hixxy not decided to make his disc an "Old Skool Killa Kutz" mix. I'm not sure what the hell he was thinking. Now, I know Old Skool is the greatest thing ever, but there are plenty of these CDs out there that people can buy. The Bonkers series has become so popular because all of the CDs featured the cutting edge in hardcore. To revert tomore… a cheesy old skool disc was really disappointing.Have no fear, though. The other three CDs are nothing short of amazing. I'm a little partial to freeform, so Sharkey's CD is my favorite, and this one is probably a little better than his Bonkers 11 mix which I thought was fantastic and the only CD worth a damn in 11. His 13 mix is just unreal. It's hard, relentless, everything a freeform mix should be. Scott Brown's CD is his most narcissistic yet, feature no less than 10 of his own songs (out of 17 total). But hey, he's Scott Brown. He makes some of the best hardcore around, so he's entitled to do this, and the songs rock. On top of that, his trademark series of Gabber tracks at the end is the best yet. The final CD, mixed by Dougal, is the one that the majority of people will buy the set for. It's very similar to the Breeze & Styles CD from Bonkers 12 (probably the best CD from that set). The majority of the tracks are of the "Happy" hardcore variety, and that's what people like. While it's a little too happy for me overall, the CD rocks. Dougal should have been part of Bonkers long ago, he's a great mixer.So, in the end, if you dump Hixxy's mix and compare the other three with Bonkers 10, I would have to say that Bonkers 13 is the best in the series. However, part of the price includes the Hixxy mix, and I just see no reason to have included it. If I want old skool, I'll buy an old skool album. Overall, though, this set is a great improvement over 11 and 12, which were average at best. Definitely worth picking up.
