Well, what can you say about this collection?!People are only just starting to sit up and take collective notice of this amazing band due to the two most recent studio albums, Horror Show and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Yet very few people are aware of the bands early material. Enter The Realm (demo):not many bands could release a demo with songs of this quality but not many bands have Jon Schaffer as a song writer. Songs like 'Iced Earth' and 'Colors' drag you in with their hard melodies. Iced Earth:The one drawback of this box set is that three of the songs that were on Enter the realmmore… demo are also on Iced Earth but that doesn't matter at the end of the day. Yet the best song on this Cd is without a doubt 'When The Night Falls' the most progressive song. Just when the song is barrelling along at 100 mph it sweeps into a delicate acoustic breakdown and then into a slower heavy riff with a catchy chorus that is worthy of any Maiden song.Night of the Stormrider:Fantastic, right from the word go. 'Angels Holocaust' is a brilliant start to the album with the bombastic vocals at the start through the short acoustic passage and into a fast and furious riff. This song leads nicely into 'Stormrider' via an acoustic passage and then into some speedy catchy riffage and a splendid galloping bassline. The whole album is dark and takes several twisting turns to leave the listner with an overpowering sense of awe. The albums finale Travel In Stygian is a fine way to end an album- it sounds like an incredibly dark version of Metallica's Master Of Puppets.Burnt Offerings: Very dark, very heavy, Very atmospheric, very intense and VERY, VERY good!. The previous statement pretty much sums up the album but 'Dante's Inferno' deserves a special mention, you may expect a song over 16 minutes in length to be more boring than a room full of politicians but don't be fooled- this song has more twists and turns than spaghetti junction! Trademark Schaffer Tech-Thrash riffage, and acoustic breakdowns, a daunting atmosphere, bobastic vocals and unnerving keyboards are but a few of the things on display here.Tribute To The Godz:Iced Earth with there own fantastic takes on amongst others Iron Maidens 'Number Of The Beast' and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', Judas Priests 'Screaming For Vengence' and 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath. Other bands covered include- Kiss, AC/DC and Alice Cooper.Iced Earth, Night Of The Stormrider and Burnt Offerings are all completely repackaged. Whilst remaining faithful to the original artworks concepts they are now drawn in the spawn comic book style that may be more familliar to many of you. Also for a little bit of extra information this is the first time that the Enter The Realm demo has been available on cd format. All this comes in an impressive slipcase cover complete with a 32 page hardback booklet.In short if you like your metal and you don't by this you're an idiot!!!-AMAZING VALUE FOR MONEY!
