After the difficult sessions leading up to Revelations, Fire Dances was Killing Joke's first album with new bass player Paul Raven. It saw them return, in part, to the primeval, tribal sound that they'd patented on their first two albums. "Song and Dance," "Feast of Blaze," and "Let's All Go to the Fire Dances" (all titular suggestions of the shamanic qualities of the songs themselves) are the standouts, yet the whole album is consistently strong. This stretching of the band's structure and texture, without abandoning their rhythmic power base, provided the blueprint which would be more fullymore…
