I haven't been a Kelly fan for long, but I have to say that their albums do get beter and better. Combining folk roots and a desire to branch out into something more like pop music and a little rock 'n' roll, this undeniably multi-talented family of 9 remarkable siblings bring a sense of familial warmth and even love to their music, which I find very pleasant to listen to on a relaxing trip or on a quiet evening.This album has its own quirks of humour, with a song about how "I Fell in Lve With An Alien" (!) and a lively reworking of "Hey Diddle Diddle". My favourite song has to be the ballad "more…Calling Heaven Now," which is strongly inspired by the death of the sibling's mother some years ago; an event that seems to move them even today.It's unusual to find a group that is embodies ideas of family and bonds of community in this modern world; and their bright clothign and long hair might lead to accusations of being 'out of date' or even 'hippies', especially in the quite cynical UK. But this music does not pretend to be in the same clas as Meatloaf or Qeen; it's got an individuality all its own that is quite unique. This is a light, easy to listen to album in a long line of stylistic experimentation and development, which becomes steadily more solid and assured the further they go. The next album, "Growin' Up," is more directly influenced by mainstream rock 'n' roll.My opinion varies on quality of vocalalisations; some of the group display more virtuosity in that department than others, and occassionally the words are swallowed by the attempt to hit the right note. But the instruments are played with great competence, and if you haven't yet met the Kellys, then this is a good, light album to get you started.
