This is not an exercise in narcissism so please bear with me. I have a very varied musical taste, from hip-hop to heavy metal, but overall I appreciate music. I discovered this album after I bought stadium arcadium and was so impressed with his guitar work, something that I doubt he has been given the freedom to express to his truest potential until recently. And don't get me wrong, I am not a huge chilli's fan, but I thought I would try frusciante's solo work, and it was one of the best purchases I ever made. This is stripped-down, beautiful, raw genius from a man who has been through all imaginablemore… and still possesses such an individualistic musical skill. Other reviewers rave about `the past recedes' being the stand out track, and it is very good, but `anne' and `time tonight' just make me stop whatever I'm doing, the songs have that much presence, and his voice is so evocative. I only own Curtains and The
Will To Death, but I'm going to go out of my way to get his whole back catalogue, in my eyes he rates as one of the best musicians in the pantheon of brilliance. I've already bored all my friends by telling them about this album, and i've had it a month now. I'm not going to use capital letters to scream `buy this album' as some seem prone, but I did, and its brilliant.
