Description
I have come across Dokken here at Amazon while searching through bands from the 80's, the decade I love so much and I listened to some of the samples... I instantly knew Dokken was to be one of my all-time favourites. I mean, they weren't popular at all here in Poland, so I didn't know bands that good existed. I also had to wait 3 weeks before my local music-shop got it for me; then I was blown away...
Basically it's the 80's pop/metal at its peak. By the word "peak" I mean it's soo incredibly good; it's the essence of hair-metal and so much reminescent of that time.
Just try to listen to thismore… album, see the inside booklet with the band's intricately layered couiffeurs and re-live the mental and sexual revolution of that time. I guarantee you'll have a time-trip back then.
I've been literally blessed with this incredible collection, and now I cannot imagine my CD-collection without this one. I cannot stop listening to it and I don't know how it happened so that I hadn't come across it recenlty. Great Don Dokken vocals, marvellous guitar work by George Lynch and brilliant, tuneful, melodic choruses that were a trademark of the 80's metal.
The choruses are incredible here, once you've heard them you cannot get them out of your head. And that all - accomoplished by fine play by the entire band - makes this compilation a MUST for everyone who likes music form that peroid.
And this is not "only" hair, or pop-metal as many shallow narrow-mided fools complain about. You cannot dismiss that great peroid with a mere wave of a hand. Just try to do it with this CD... it's incredibly coherent and well-made.
As we all know the most popular band from that time was Bon Jovi, and I've always loved them, but I must claim here that
Dokken had both the potential and talent to go further and get better that Bon Jovi ever did in the 80's!! Once I've heard some Dokken tunes I fell in love with them instantly. I mean, did Richie Sambora ever produced such amaznig solos as George Lynch in "Dream warriors" or "Paris is Burning" ?? No!
Don Dokken's voice seem to be deeper and more emotional that Jon Bon Jovi's one as well.
Of course, the 80's hair metal produced much more great stuff just to name Great White, Tesla, Poison, Whitesnake, Def Leppard. I know them all, with Bon Jovi at the top, but now after hearing Dokken... you know, I don't know if it's just a temporary fascination but it seems to me they were superior to all these bands.
All in all, this is a SUPERB compilation that brilliantly encapsulates the 80's pop-metal; it's like a landmark, a hallmark of that time which we all going to love...
Everyone would be amazed by the raw power, emotion and catchy choruses of this great piece of musicanship - from the beggining to the very end, throughout the entire 16 tracks. And the material form the later peroid is also surpisingly good. I am certainly going to end up buying the entire Dokken catalouge.
Highly recommended.
