Unfortunately I'm not in a position to compare this DVD with the other concert DVD's of this legendary soul singer, but what I can say is that I can't imagine there's better footage around. (Come to think of it, I saw the Amsterdam concert on tv once, but this Montreux show is from another planet! Anyone who likes the music of Marvin Gaye just a little bit will not be disappointed with this DVD. Sound and music are sublime and the DVD shows Marvin in supershape. The choice of songs give a nice overview of his career with classics from "Here my dear", "Trouble man", "Let's get it on", his sixtiesmore… hits and, ofcourse the phenomenal "What's going on". There's a lot of ad libbing and improvisation going down. Marvin's spare keyboard solo's are beautiful, and the band... well the band is amazing! After a funky start, the show becomes more and more soulful. Every song touches the heart, especially his interpretations of his sixties hits. Also the three male background singers (beautiful voices, great arrangements) give a good show. The only problem I have with this DVD is that it starts too late and ends too early!
