I bought this album on the day it was released. By the time I had reached the middle of Red Hill Mining Town on the first listen I was crying - no other album has EVER had such a profound affect on me, and no album is likely to ever again. From start to finish this is as near perfection as you can get. Despite the radical differences in the tempo and subtlety of the tracks the whole album just flows effortlessly along after the blistering opener "Streets", which is just pure magic. Basically, virtually every song on this album could easily have been a hit single, thats how brilliant it is. Anmore… absolute masterpiece that has stood the test of time and still sounds as fresh today as it did when first released 20 years ago. A MUST for any decent music collection.

Quite what Mr Bateman is on about I don't know - U2 would probably have ceased to exist long ago if they had stuck with there early album style (or would have sunk like Simple Minds who were never brave enough to take a different approach). It is U2's intuition and innovation which has seem them outlast virtually any band from the 80's and the Joshua Tree is still, in my opinion, there number one album.
