Description

After having been dropped from Roadrunner (along with seemingly every other death metal band on the label) Suffocation found their career in trouble, and this mini-album (originally released on some tiny obscure label called Vulture) represented their last attempt to get noticed before calling it a day. Consisting of 4 new songs and a re-recording of Catatonia (from their debut mini-album Human Waste), Despise the Sun is undoubtedly the bands best release since their classic Effigy of the Forgotten, featuring some incredibly complex and heavy technical death metal. Another new drummer comesmore… along in the shape of the mighty Dave Culross, who injects some savage pace into the material, though in common with a lot of Scott Burns production they seem a little quiet in the mix, particularly the snare drum during the blastbeat sections. Alas, despite it's quality Despise the Sun failed to resurrect Suffocation's career, but despite it's brevity this is one release that fans of the band do not want to miss.
