Roy Orbison had one of the finest voices in popular music and used it effectively and well to record some of the finest pop music of his era. This collection contains twenty of his best covering the period 1960 to mid-1966. All these tracks were recorded for Monument but released on the London label in the UK. Roy then moved to MGM although his MGM recordings were also released on the London label in the UK. Roy started his MGM career with a UK top three hit (Too soon to know) but it was his only significant hit for MGM and it's not included here.Apart from Too soon to know (often missing frommore… Roy's sixties compilations), you can find all of Roy's golden hits here. They include three UK number one hits (Only the lonely, It's over, Oh pretty woman) and his other UK top ten hits (Running scared, Dream baby, In dreams, Falling, Blue bayou, Mean woman blues, Pretty paper).Surprisingly, Crying was only a minor UK for Roy in the sixties although it was a huge American hit. Helped by Don McLean's cover (a UK number one hit in 1980) and Roy's duet version with k d lang (a top twenty UK hit in 1992), it is now regarded as one his best songs even in the UK.Candy man, another major American hit for Roy, was a UK top ten hit for Brian Poole and the Tremeloes. Roy's version didn't chart (maybe wasn't released) in the UK. However, Roy's original is rightly included here.Some but not all of Roy's other UK hits are also here, together with covers of two Everly Brothers songs (Love hurts, All I have to do is dream) and I can't stop loving you, the Don Gibson country song that became an international pop hit for Ray Charles.If you only want a single CD of Roy's sixties music, this is what you are looking for.
