This relatively straightforward Pussycat hits collection offers little variation from the earlier Mississippi compilation — just three songs here were not present on that set, "Hey Joe," "Let Freedom Range," and "Then the Music Stopped," none of which either adds or detracts from the merits of its predecessor. Of course, the hits that the English-speaking world regards as Pussycat's best-known numbers, the U.K. chart-topper "Mississippi" and its Top 30 follow-up, "Smile," are both here — and so is the group's sterling re-evaluation of the 1965 Four Tops hit "It's the Same Old Song,"more… presented here with all the breezy guile and groovy swing that characterizes the best of Pussycat's own material. The remainder of the set meanders through Pussycat's late-'70s Dutch hits catalog, a surprisingly wide-ranging potpourri of styles and forms that insists the group's meager two-hit reputation is considerably less than it deserves. Comparisons with ABBA and the Brotherhood of Man abound, of course, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Not only does it prove that Pussycat was quite capable of standing alongside such heavy-hitting peers, it also gives the first-time listener some instantly recognizable points of reference.
