OK first off this the greatness of this album is not at first apparent but repeated listening will bring its qualities to the fore. It's simply the huge range of emotions that are hard to take in all in one go. Alternately rocking,bruising,tender,despairing and uplifting this album showcases some of Warren's strongest material and was a fine return following on from the brilliance of his previous Mr.Bad Example album.The seemingly autobiographical Piano Fighter is Warren at his beligerent best and the satirical rocker Rottweiler Blues takes a malicious swipe at the pitt-bull mentality of whitemore… trash culture. Poisonous Lookalike cuttingly lambasts manipulative females and Warren's acidic wit is never far from the surface on these hard rocking songs, but it is with the more acoustic styled ballads that he really scores.The Indifference of Heaven is simply breathtaking and the domestic drama of Jesus Was A Cross Maker is beautifully understated with a maturity that only 20 years of crafting wonderful melodies like Warren can bring.The title track's heartrending plea for solace closes the album with one of Warren's finest ballads. There are few artists that can lay themselves as bare as Warren and in fact this song was taken up by Bob Dylan who still performs it live to this day & there can be no higher accolade than from the great Zim himself.A truly majestic album of unforgettable melodies, a dash of rock savvy, poignant ballads and the sardonic wit and wisdom of one of America's truly great songwriters whose deep baritone voice can make you laugh as well as cry. Truly exceptional, an album you will grow to love - like almost all his albums.Warren passed away on 7th Sept.03 after losing his battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed, he was truly a unique talent and his humanity shines through all his work and especially on this release. He may have been Mr.Bad Example but he was truly on the side of the angels.
