Something of a last gasp attempt to appease (then) corporate record label bosses at EMI who where pleading for another "'Childhood", "Straws"-esque mega platinum success Marillion resorted to sugary radio-friendly skulduggery."Cover my eyes" (with it's U2 inspired riffing) and "No One Can" are excruciating. Seriously. Weak watered-down pop that was aimed squarely at a Radio1 audience who just didn't care. Worse still album opener "Splintering Heart", with the intro lifted straight from the superior "Holloway Girl" (Season End), is three different tracks welded together!But do not despair. "Drymore… Land" is beautiful. Rescued from a pre-Marillion Steve Hogarth incarnation its simple riffs and heart felt lovelorn lyrics is a real tonic. Perversely the title track is silly. Jabbering on about trying to relive holiday romances or something is ham-fisted middle-aged rock. Not good. But if you can steer yourself away from the song structure you can take joy in some beautiful sound bites, like the "100 Nights" outro to the "This Town" trilogy with it's haunting reverberating vocals balanced against some classic atmospheric Mark Kelly keys work.One for the die-hard fan only I'm afraid. Casual listeners would do well to skip to "Brave" for better days.
