The Mobb return with their 7th studio album - 'Blood Money', this time signed to 50's G-Unit records.

As a big fan of the Mobb I gotta say I was a little apprehensive about how this one would turn out & in the end I had a right to be - Blood Money is without a doubt Mobb Deep's weakest album. It simply sounds nothing like what we have come to expect. Perhaps the biggest problem is that this is essentially a G-Unit compilation album. After all Prodigy & Havoc only appear solo on 6 of the 16 tracks (17 on the UK version).

In terms of the actual music it's very mixed. When I first heard 'Stolemore… Something' I thought something was wrong with the disc, while 'Capital P, Capital H' & 'It's Alright' are simply terrible. 'Click Click' & 'Pearly Gates' are ok but they just sound like the generic g-unit stuff we have come to expect. They could easily be on a Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo or 50 Cent album. 'Creep' sounds a bit different but it gets irritating. 'Backstage Pass' & 'Give It To Me' are 2 of the better tracks. Best song on the album is by far 'The Infamous', followed by 'Smoke It' & 'Put Em In Their Place. The album also includes The 'Outta Control Remix' & 'Have A Party' - these are the most commercial songs on the album and although quite good, they were released months ago on different albums.

The Mobb have come under a lot of stick in recent years for their efforts on the likes of 'infamy'. While obviously not in the same league as 'The Infamous' or 'Hell On Earth', to be honest I didn't think Infamy was that bad. Furthermore, some of their recent stuff has been amongst their best. 'Americaz Nightmare' has got to be one of the most underrated albums of recent time - the title track, 'Flood The Block' & 'Win Or Lose' are all classic tracks, while 'Got It Twisted' is in my opinion the Mobb's best song since the Hell On Earth album. Some of their mixtape stuff has also been great - 'Cobra Clutch' & 'Not Hurtin Nothin' (which I expected to appear on Blood Money) are both classics. Because of this I still thought Blood Money could turn out decent but it was not to be.

Overall this is a big disappointment. Fans of The Infamous & Hell On Earth should stay away. If you're a 50 Cent & G-Unit fan on the other hand you'll definitely like this album.
