Description

As a child we (I and the other siblings) would always awake early in the morning during Yule, run downstairs and watch the wonders and magic of Narnia unfold on the TV-screen. Back then we watched the original British series that was made out of several of C. S. Lewis' books. Today, we have some wonderful updated movies based upon the books; so far only two have been made, but the third one is due the coming Yule; The Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Widescreen Edition) and this one: Prince Caspian. The movie is in fact such a wonderful adventure I've now seen it severalmore… times, it takes me straight back to my childhood.

The four siblings of the Pevensie-family are living their lives back in profane Britain, a bit older and wiser since they returned from their adventures with the White Witch in the first film. They are eventually summoned back to their beloved Kingdom of Narnia, a Narnia that is now quite changed. All the creatures of wonder and mythology have been ruthlessly hunted down by human colonizers that are formed along lines somewhat similar to the Spaniards of old, in their conquest of the Americas. As in the first film, there is a rather large flaw in the choice of actors for the Pevensie-family: they are of three different sub-races! The two females: Susan and Lucy are Alpines, the older boy Peter is a proper British Hallstatt and the younger brother Edmund is a kind of Near Eastern-mixture. I wish the directors of the film could explain to me how that would be possible in one single family!

A power-grabbing nobleman that is pretending as King while his nephew, the proper heir to the throne, becomes adult, makes a decision to kill of his nephew when his own son is born, thereby securing the throne for his own direct bloodline. The prince, Caspian, flees the court and seeks refuge among the forests, where there turns out to still be creatures of wonder alive, contrary to popular belief. Eventually he allies himself with the Pevensie-siblings and the mythical creatures of Narnia, and they start their war against the usurper of the throne. The film is for lack of a better word: wonderful. The special effects are amazing, the whole "Spanish" feel of the "new" human kingdom is quite real and the film has a Traditionalist and Royalist feeling throughout, despite what one would expect from the Disney company of today. Simply a must-see and a clear five star film for all the family.
