Having initially come to the attention of the UK rock press as support band to Patti Smith way back in 1976, and the fact that they could thrash and bluster with the best of them, Guildford's Stranglers were injudiciously lumped in with the emergent UK punk scene. However, their keyboard-driven sound owed as much to The Doors as it did to the Sex Pistols and they rapidly proved their mettle as one of the finest, most commercially viable, units of the entire post-punk epoch.
