Description

The Saint isn't one of Orbital's finest moments. The title track is taken from the soundtrack to the movie of the same name. The song sees Orbital operating in a style similar to Propellerheads' "History Repeating." Mixing a big-band feel with the classical techno textures of their own In Sides album, the song is worthy of the movie but not the dancefloor. It's quite disappointing. The short edit of "The Box" that appears will be nothing new to Orbital fans, as it appears in more complete form on In Sides. As on that album, it's a moody, inspired stunner. Following "The Saint," one sees just howmore… bland the title song is. "The Sinner" seems to be Orbital's answer to Hollywood. The Hartnoll twins seem to be saying that if they're going to tarnish their reputation for a lame movie soundtrack, they're going to rework the song into a more interesting frenzy on the single release. "The Sinner" is quite sinister in its dancehall-style jungle sounds. It bears some resemblance to Plug's Barton Fink-sampling "Life of the Mind" from the import version of his Drum 'N' Bass for Papa. The Saint is only worth a look for "The Sinner."
