Those expecting another masterclass in jazz-fusion guitar should avoid Gambale's second JVC release, Note Worker. Whereas Gambale does turn in the occaisonal frenzied lead break, such as on High 5 and Jet Rag, the overall pace of this album is somewhat restrained, featuring several songs with Gambale himself on vocals. Despite fine performances from musicians such as Dave Weckl, Steve Smith and Steve Tavaglione, Note Worker never seems to get going, and in this instance - Gambale's brand of experimental jazz-pop just doesn't rise above mediocre. Guitar fans would do better picking up the excellentmore…
