Description
Very much a classical/jazz crossover album that evokes visions of summer afternoons, brass bands and garden fetes as well as a sound track to a 20's detective drama or an accompaniment to a black and white movie. That is not meant to be derogatory or to say this is dated. It's not. Much of the music is scripted but there is also a good deal of improvisation by both Surman and from some of the "classical" players within the band.This album is not one that made an instant impact but I found myself returning to as it slowly got under my skin.
