Despite the bluesy bark of Travis Tritt's soulful vocals, his artistry lacks the bite of his outlaw heroes. Down the Road I Go, his first album for Columbia (after a decade with Warner Bros.) finds him once again mixing country tradition with rock dynamics. "Livin' on Borrowed Time" sounds enough like Hank Williams Jr. that it could pass as Bocephus Lite, while the title cut recycles every rambling-man cliché from the Allman/Skynyrd school.
