The second wind (fourth wind?) that was the Hawaiian show in January was all but spent with the release of "Raised On Rock". The theory was sound, Elvis had sold well recently with "Steamroller Blues" and "Burning Love" so if the country wanted Rock'n'Roll from the king, then Rock'n'Roll they will get.But Elvis let the side down with a poor vocal performance, obviously triggered by poor health. "For Ol' Times Sake" is a fine performance of a cool Tony Joe White track and "Find Out What's Happening" is a good rock'n'roll track, so he could cut it when the material was better, but the rest is averagemore… songs not very well performed. In September of that same year Elvis re-recorded some of the vocal tracks from home, and in much better voice he made a much better fist of "Sweet Angeline" and "Are you Sincere", but they're not great records.It's still quite a good record, sorry if I sound too negative, at least it's a little more upbeat than some of his 70s output. But what happened to "I've a thing about you baby". If you haven't heard it, it's a belting song from the same session that produced this record. Why not flesh out these thin 10 songs with it. Come on RCA!!!
