I have never hated this album the way many other Costello fans do. I first heard it when it was originally re-issued in 1995 with a stack of bonus tracks. Maybe that coloured my opinion, but now that's it's been completely remixed and an extra CD with most of those bonus trakcs plus a whole flotilla more I find myself reappraising it.It's actually very good - even the original CD sounds better. There are actually some great songs on here. I love 'Joe Porterhouse', 'Home Truth', 'Inch By Inch' and the live version of 'Worthless Thing' on CD2. Even some of the weaker tracks are re-vitalisedmore… on CD2 when you hear the stripped down demos and acoustic live work. It actually makes you sad to think how great this could have been had EC been able to pull it, re-work it and then release it later as he wanted to, but he was contractually tied in to the release date.I would urge any Costello fan who may have loathed this album before to take the plunge and try it again. It may surprise you.
