Smith's first record since Angel Eyes five years ago, this is a stirring collection featuring five guest vocalists and a number of other visitors, underpinned by Reggie McBride on bass and Harvey Mason's drums. As the title telegraphs, the 11-track programme is entirely devoted to the blues, and those admirers of Smith's more lyrical and more sophisticated work (e.g. The Cat and the albums with Wes Montgomery) might find it a touch remorseless at times.
