Description
Evans' vision for his trios was that they should as far as possible comprise three equal voices, and not the more traditional - and still more common - piano with rhythm section. Although this recording does not seem to be generally held in anywhere near as high regard as the extraordinary Village Vanguard sessions with Scott LaFaro on bass, it seems to me to achieve the same high degree of democratic interplay that was Evans' goal. Even when they aren't soloing, both Peacock and Motian in particular are playing lines that sound like they are, and if you can pull that off without descending intomore…
