I am not an Ellington fan and bought this box set as it is dedicated to Jimmy Blanton and Ben Webster. Jimmy Blanton for such an influential musician has recorded very little in his short life. Dying in 1942 at the age of 24 he spent virtually his whole professional life with the Duke and this box set includes almost the whole of his recorded work. Listen to it and understand where nearly every other bass player got their inspiration, until he came on the scene bass players were locked into the rhythm section. There is also some excellent music in this set!
