Description
With no insult meant whatsoever, Dee Dee Bridgewater is a very traditional singer. Her throaty vocals and scat singing cover similar musical territory as Billie Holiday in the early part of her career, although in a less persuasive manner. She is, however, rooted in that tradition, as the swinging version of "All Of Me" that opens this live album clearly shows. She covers the standards very well and it is because of her fine voice that she has the confidence to take on "Strangefruit" and risk the comparison every female singer faces when covering that particular song with Billie Holiday's originalmore…
