Seriously who'd have thought that Die Hard meets Home Alone would seriously work but it does. This is entertaining family friendly action humour of a sort that I've not seen in a while.

Paul Blart is a kind of self-effacing everyman who tries his best to be positive despite the obvious reality his life isnt all he'd hoped for, he invents an oath when his work buddies could care less, besides his station in life Paul's lonely and dreams of true love.

The acting is brilliant and characterisation simply doesnt miss, you can really empathise with the guy and his very human dilemma, he's not depictedmore… as entirely goofy nor someone to despair about. Just a nice guy.

This alone would probably have been sufficient for a rom-com full of dry humour and understated wit but enter the bad guys who have a Die Hard style scheme to seize the mall like the Nacatomi Plaza and rip off its riches. At this point the movie takes an unexpected turn as a low key actioner, not massive explosions and shoot outs but some impressive free running, skating and BMX stuntsmanship. This is an occasion for more humour, mainly slapstick, and the film doesnt take itself too seriously, there's a lot of action cliches and parody.

Its not likely to be an award winning movie but its good family entertainment, pretty heart warming, innocently life affirming and good for laughs.
