Dave Koz plays the whole range of saxaphones in a way that is both smooth and yet very soulful. He is accompanied by a wide group of true jazz players with an extra-ordinary range of instruments. On how many jazz albums do you know that you can hear a melatron, celeste, wurlitzer, mandolin, harmonica and trash can being played? Yet what sounds like it may be little more than a self-indulgent yultide novelty actually works to produce a beautiful and wide range of tracks. I particularly love the use of acoustic and slide guitar on Little Drummer Boy. The inherant optimism of the title vocal trackmore…, written and sung by Dave himself, is a poignant reminder of Dave's own feelings in relation to a time of year when families come together and was obviously a particular comfort to him as he recorded the album soon after the death of his father. He may not be the most soulful singer you have ever heard, but the words clearly meant much to him. The downside is the length of the complete collection, only 47 minutes. The final, unexpected extra to Auld Lang Syne certainly will surprize you. Dave and friends clearly had fun making this collection, and I am sure you will enjoy listening to it
