Kendricks had hit a rich vein with his third album and the single "Keep On Truckin", which were included on part one of the anthology. Timings of the albums kept "Boogie Down", the fourth album, off that set, so you're just going to have to buy part 2 as well!!

"Boogie Down" has Eddie at the peak of his form, his vocal performance is faultless and there's plenty of variety, uptempo follow ups to "Truckin'" and several ballad tracks which are personal favourites, in particular "Tell Her Love....". There's a great lilting, reggae influenced "You Are The Melody..." and all in all this album startsmore… this package brilliantly.

Album no 6, "The Hit Man"represented something of a return to form after a disappointing "For You", although the intrusive production that marred that album and his later work is in evidence, as the album closes. Stand out tracks are "If Anyone Can", "Body Talk" and "Happy".

Unfortunately for Kendricks, his star was waning by this stage, and the final 2 Motown albums hardly do justice to a man whose voice was synonymous with the great days of the label. "He's a Friend" and "Slick" veer between sub standard Disco and some almost showtune productions, with few highlights.

The bonus tracks are for completists and real fans, so unless you came to Kendricks late in his career, you'll be getting this for the first 2 albums, and I recommend you do at this price.
