Description

After the illustrious Family had folded, Roger Chapman & Charlie Whitney recorded a duo album called Streetwalkers. ( It's been the missing link for ages, so can someone release it on CD please ? ).

The band that was formed to back-up this endavour took the album's name but subsequently took on a life of its own. Together with ex-Jeff Beck Group singer Bobby Tench and the amazing rhythm section of Jonathan Plotel on bass and Nicko McBrain on drums they turned into a hard-hitting white funk band on their first album Downtown Flyers.

Bobby Tench appeared to be the ideal partner for both Chappomore… and Charlie. His voice powerful enough to give Chappo a run for his money in their alternate lead vocals and his guitarplaying the perfect compliment to Charlie's. The songs on the album range from the wild funk of the title track to the delta blues of "Ace Of Spades" with a Family-like ballad like "Miller" in between for good measure.

This album has been sadly overlooked on any and all of "The Best Of The 70s" lists I have ever came across. To me it ranks among the best albums Chappo and Charlie recorded with Family and I don't say that lightly ........... Check this one out for yourself and don't forget to crank up the volume !
