I really can't seem to understand the priorities of Capitol/EMI/Blue Note Records - they spend tons of money to re-edition this or that over-exposed or rightfully-obscure recording (think early-Miles or early-Rollins) and let gems like this fall completely through the cracks. For many years this item was available straight off the racks as one of BN's Dorham staples, but has clearly fallen out of print. Unlike many albums of this era and personnel, it has not been given 'Connoisieur' status, though this will probably change soon.This record is the first *major* collaboration and showcasing ofmore… Mr. Dorham with tenor-legend-to-be Joe Henderson. Unlike the preceding and flawed 'Una Mas' (senselessly re-released as an RVG re-master) both Dorham and Henderson are in top form here, stripping the brass off many an otherwise straight-ahead melody, paving the way for post-bop. This collection also bests the previous album in that an assured Tommy Flanagan sits at the piano, rather than a young and unsure Hancock. If you are serious about mid-sixties jazz, this is a must-have.
