This is glorious stuff. A live performance, brilliantly recorded of a big jazz band relishing the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Cobham's drums sound is magnificent, his playing imperious. I have been listening to Inner Mounting Flame and Birds of Fire for over 30 years, and this is a refreshing take on familiar pieces. At times it sounds a bit clunky (I imagine some worried looks being exchanged between band members along the lines of "where are we...?" in BoF. But "You Know, you know" retains its delicacy (Cobham playing the same fills as the original recording) and by the time they get to "Meeting ofmore…
