I never thought I'd find a singer to inspire & 'reach into me' as much as Dusty Springfield, but here she is: the great, unsung Dottie West. Being a country music fan, I was aware of her, of course, but somehow (and in common with 99.9% of the planet) did not fully appreciate the soulfulness & subtlety of her voice.

So, to the CD: If Dottie made better albums than these two, I'd like to hear them. Every track oozes class & style, but 'Funny, familiar, forgotten feelings' stands out. It's a superior composition, anyway, and her voice, as ever, conveys that extra something - something deep andmore… special.

Why is she not more popular? For the same reason that Patsy Cline wasn't - for a long time, anyway, i.e. that crossover country singers are not taken seriously by the contemporary audience. When 30 years or so have elapsed - as happened with Patsy - and the labels cease to provoke the same prejudices, I feel she'll be 'discovered', or rather re-discovered. Till then, I just play and enjoy (to quote another reviewer) 'one of the all-time greats.'
