I bought this from Amazon over Christmas and have to say it is the best album of Frisell's I have listened to. He takes familiar tunes ( from 'Ghost Town' and 'Quartet' ) and with Jones and Holland weaves a fascinating improvised web of sounds, notes and moods. Whereas many lesser jazz players cover their lack of musical sensibility by extensive scale runs ( to fill nervous silences ) Bill Frisell always understates the improvisations by carefully picking out notes. We know he can play straight ahead ( listen to his work with Motian and Lovano ) but he wants to explore new territory.Make suremore…
