I was always a bit miffed at how different versions of 'Movement In Still Life' were released in different regions. In America they complained the version they had excluded some tracks, and vice-versa. So finally for us Brits here's a chance to here some of BT's work that we've been denied thus far. I agree that SLIM is more of a 'bonus' CD to MISL that we didn't get first time round.'Shame' was nothing like I'd expected (having only come across the ambient 'Bent' remix on a Ministry Compilation) but quickly it became a real grower. Seems BT also has quite a flair for lyrics & vocals as well asmore… progressive beats & breaks. It'd make a great single over here.'Never Gonna Come Back Down' was a real sleeper when it was released here unfortunately, hardly troubling the charts. Should it have garnered some more airplay than people would have realised what they were missing. NGCBD here is presented here in its full 5-minute+ glory, oh yes.'Smartbomb' is just that; heavy slabs of beats meshed with squelching bass. Best played at a crazy volume...'Madskillz...' was one of my favourite MISL tracks - some mad vocals over pounding beats culminating in a truly mesmerising breakdown. This is one of the tracks that converted many a mate of mine to BT's genius.Then it's a change of gear down into 'Love On Haight Street'. This was another BT track completely new to my ears. A Groove Armada-esque downbeat/hip-hop blend; it's a real head-nodder!The WOW mix of 'Shame' turns the guitar-driven original into a full-on tech-trance workout. Deep & dark this is one for driving at night...As if 'Smartbomb' couldn't get any edgier along come the Plump DJ's with beats & breaks slung very low. Cutting edge stuff, clichéd as that may sound these days. Very harsh on the ears to some, pure dancefloor fuel to others.My favourite mix of 'Never Gonna...' thus far has to be Hybrid's tech/breakbeat working from the single. This is perhaps the weakest mix on this CD, but even then it wipe's the floor with an average dance mix. Damn good all the same.Bent's remix of 'Shame' is a nice ambient closer. Having only heard the instrumental before I was curious to hear the vocals melded as well. If the whole CD is a mad night out from start to finish then this final track is the perfect post-club comedown.BT, like Orbital, may be criminally overlooked when it comes to those who have changed the face of dance music. It's said that it's the "quiet ones who change the universe, the loud ones just take all the credit..." Well once again BT is 'quietly' pushing the boundaries. Others will get there later and claim the new sub-genre as their own, but you'll always hear it here first.
