This was Hawes' last recording, which was released posthumously by Contemporary Records.It reveals a pianist in prime form, bluesy chords, and idiosyncratic stylings to the fore, particularly in a majestic version of Roberta Flack's pop song 'Killing me Softly with his song' that really swings.The interplay between the trio, Ray Brown and the late Shelly Manne is another reason to buy this album.
